All Square At Darts In Exeter
Michael van Gerwen was looking to bounce back from a surprise defeat last week when he took on Adrian Lewis in the Darts Premier League last night. Under the lights of Exeter’s Westpoint Arena, Lewis and van Gerwen served up a great game in an entertaining 6-6 draw.
Lewis was turned over comfortably by van Gerwen in the World Championships semi-final in December, losing 0-6 to Mighty Mike. On this occasion down on the south coast, Lewis was able to hit the doubles he was missing back then, and took van Gerwen to the wire. Van Gerwen will have been disappointed not to win the match though, leading as he did 6-3.
“Adrian came back very well and I struggled to finish the job,” admitted van Gerwen, who will compete in the UK Open finals on Friday.
“Neither of us played our best but it was still a very good, entertaining game and I hope the crowd and viewers enjoyed it. Getting another point on the board is the most important thing and I can now focus on the UK Open this weekend.”
After five games, van Gerwen sits second in the Premier League table, one point behind leader Peter Wright. Next Thursday, the 13th, Michael takes on Wes Newton at the Capital FM Arena in Nottingham.
