E-Lites On The BTCC Podium
E-Lites’ Rob Austin had a weekend to remember at Oulton Park as he soaked in the applause for his first podium finish of the season. The Worcestershire Whizzkid had an amazing weekend; qualifying sixth, he finished fifth in the first of Sunday’s three races, before taking third step on the podium with a blistering performance.
He used the safety car to his advantage and was placed under pressure by former champion Jason Plato, but held on for that podium, to the delight of his team and fans. It is Rob’s first podium since winning at Rockingham last summer. Before race three, the heavens opened to throw even more drama into the mix, and Rob and the team adjusted well to claim a trio of top-five finishes, by finishing fifth.
Team-mate Hunter Abbott had a not-so-memorable time, picking up a 24th and a DNF, whilst also getting a reprimand after causing a collision in the first race. However, in race two, he did put the car into 16th place, just one position outside of the points. The BTCC newbie is putting in the hours to get on the scoresheet.
The next race weekend is at Croft, in North Yorkshire on June 28-29, and both drivers are going to have the drive and self-belief to do even better.
