E-Lites On Two Wheels
E-Lites Electronic Cigarettes launched our sponsorship of the BSB series and racers Peter Hickman and Tim Hastings last Sunday at Brands Hatch. The meeting was a true racing carnival with over 80,000 people in attendance over the weekend for the inaugural meeting.
Tim Hasting, racing for our very own Team E-Lites Kawasaki made a solid start to the 2013 Metzeler National Superstock 600 season, finishing fourth at Brands Hatch on Sunday. In his first full season in Superstock 600, the young Scot rode to fifth in qualifying and after a shaky start to the race, just missed out on a podium finish. Fourth place, however, was met with delight by his pit crew and his team manager, father Tony.
Speaking after the race, Hastings said “I’m very happy - we had very fast race pace. We were setting on-the-lap-record pace every lap. We’ve got a good setup and the bike is working well.”
E-Lites are also sponsoring BSB racer Peter Hickman, riding for GBMoto Racing. Hickman, in his seventh season in Superbikes, saw limited testing time over the winter so found himself further down the grid than he’d like, starting race one on Saturday way down in eighteenth place. After a good start and a solid ride, he held on and finished twelfth. Part of this was due to the last-lap retirement of his teammate Dan Linfoot, who suffered a fractured pelvis after a collision with James Westmoreland. Starting fourteenth for race two, Hickman stayed out of trouble and climbed to tenth before finishing thirteenth, and picking up seven points over the weekend.
Of finishing thirteenth, Hickman said “Not quite where I wanted [to be], but we made a big change to the bike which makes the bike much easier to ride and we went quite a bit faster, so it’s good our performance has gone forward. At least I scored points in both races, it’s something to start with and we’ll move on from here now.”
As E-Lites are the championship and team sponsor, we ensured that the excited crowd were continually entertained. The E-Lites pit crew handed out samples to smokers and provided demonstrations of our revolutionary electronic cigarettes. The circuit was branded ‘E-Lites’ so that riders, attendees and the worldwide TV audience all witnessed E-Lites hoardings positioned throughout the legendary Brands Hatch circuit.
Hickman, Hastings and Team E-Lites Kawasaki are back in action on Saturday, qualifying for Sunday’s race at Thruxton.
