Formula 4 Season Review
E-Lites got their first taste of four-wheel racing in 2013, with sponsorship of Matt Bell in the inaugural BRDC Formula 4 Championship. The races were frantic and frenetic and saw ten different race winners over the 24-race season. The first F4 Championship was won at the closing race weekend by Jake Hughes but the season was a great learning experience for Matt Bell and Team E-Lites.
Back in April it was the red-and-white number 53 car of Matt Bell that won the first ever Formula 4 race at Silverstone. Matt Bell started the season impeccably and briefly led the Championship. He managed to follow up his race win with two more over the opening half of the season – at Brands Hatch in May and at Oulton Park in July.
Things were to turn for the worse however – a disastrous weekend at Snetterton saw Matt crash heavily after a tangle with Sennan Fielding. This was followed up with another trip into the wall in the Kent forest at Brands Hatch. From these two incidents, the season tailed off with other drivers making a push for the title and Matt experiencing mechanical problems at crucial points.
But the season was an exciting introduction to single-seater racing for E-Lites, and with 287 points in the season, Matt finished 8th in the standings, which is not to be sniffed at! We’re pleased with the three wins we got and grateful to everyone who gave us this great opportunity. What does 2014 hold? We’ll find out soon!
