Tim Hastings Back On Track For E-Lites
The British Superbike season got underway at Brands Hatch this weekend, with Tim Hastings racing his new Team E-Lites Kawasaki Supersport Evo bike for the first time. There are fourteen competitors in Tim’s Evo Championship, and the race takes place at the same time as the Supersport Championship, meaning there are over 30 bikes on track for the races.
It was a wet and windy Easter Sunday in Kent as Tim struggled with wet weather, qualifying and finishing in tenth in his class. On a dry Monday, however, there was more to cheer, as he raced from a qualifying slot of 13th, to finish 7th in his class. Top 15 finishers all get points, which means that providing Tim stays on the bike, he’ll always pick up points.
In the British Touring Car Championship, there was disappointment for Hunter Abbott – his weekend consisted of two non-finishes and a 24th, in a similarly wet and tricky Donington Park. Teammate Rob Austin also had a difficult weekend, with a 29th, 18th and a DNF. He set the fastest lap in the first race after changing tyres, but couldn’t catch the pack, and was taken out of race three by fellow racer Tom Ingram. Rob Austin is in contention for the Jack Sears Trophy however, which is awarded to the driver with the most overtakes this season. It is currently led by Alain Menu, but Rob knows how to get past the opposition.
All our riders and racers will be fighting for more points at the next races. They’re all in action on May 3-5, as Tim Hastings goes to Oulton Park and Hunter Abbott goes to Thruxton.
