Top Award for E-Lites Electronic Cigarette Advert

It was the television advert that everyone was talking about earlier this year, and after going viral and earning praise from you and from top celebrities too, our ‘Gangnam Baby’ television advert has now picked up a trophy too at the annual Roses Creative Awards in Manchester.

Our commercial, put together by the Birmingham based McCann Agency, created quite a storm when it first aired back in January. Due to UK advertising legislation the initial thirty-second commercial for our electronic cigarettes was the first time a smoking product had been advertised on UK television screens in twenty-two years. But it wasn’t just the focus on electronic cigarettes that caused a stir in the press and online, but also the quality and originality of the advert too.

Mark Benton, star of sit-com Early Doors and BBC drama Waterloo Road, may have been the commercial’s big name, but he wasn’t its main turn, and as he disappeared outside for a quick cigarette he gave way to the real star of the campaign; the Gangnam dancing baby. The infant’s CGI-powered moves are what got the nation talking and made the clip a viral hit, as it received more than 1.5 million views on our YouTube channel, and even earned the praise of the man behind the ‘Gangnam’ craze himself; Korean pop sensation PSY

All that feedback and publicity was made worthwhile for E-Lites and McCann this week as the electronic cigarette commercial was acknowledged at the 2013 Roses Creative Awards in Manchester. The ‘Gangnam Baby’ advert was presented with a Bronze in the category for TV/Cinema Commercials Over 21 Seconds. A great reward for all of our actors, the whole team behind the commercial and all of you for supporting us and the commercial.
