Are E-Lites electronic cigarettes safer than smoking tobacco cigarettes?

Although the health effects of e-cigarette use have yet to be fully understood, there is a growing consensus among many public health experts that the use of e-cigarettes is likely to be less risky to health compared to smoking. Such beliefs are largely based on the fact that vapour from an e-cigarette is chemically simpler compared to cigarette smoke. The science is developing all the time, however, so as a responsible manufacturer we will not make health claims for our products. If you are a smoker who is concerned about the health risks of smoking traditional cigarettes, the only way to eliminate these risks is to quit altogether.

What is the smoke that is released?

This is NOT smoke - It is a mixture of propylene glycol (as used to produce stage smoke), glycerol, nicotine and flavorings and, for most E-Tips nicotine.

Although every smoker smokes differently, an average human inhalation is approximately 1.5 seconds. A "whole" regular sized (not superking) cigarette equates to 10 average inhalations. Of course some people smoke a tobacco cigarette in 10 drags whilst others can burn a full cigarette down in 4 or 5 much longer drags.

So 210 machine inhalations returns over 400 average (1.5 second) human inhalations which when divided by 10 = approximately 40 'cigarettes'. But every user inhales differently so your E-Tip may last longer than this or may need replacing sooner.

What makes the vapour?

The E-Tip (electronic cigarette cartridge) contains a solution of propylene glycol, glycerol, flavourings and, in most cases, nicotine. When the user inhales, heated air is drawn into the atomisation chamber and then passes through the cartridge containing the e-liquid solution. This vapourises, to generate 'smoke' and give you the same feeling as smoking. The vapour tastes and feels just like the smoke from a normal cigarette.

How long does an E-Tip last?

E-Tips are tested by automated machine bellows to quantify the amount of inhalations, and therefore approximate 'cigarettes' that they provide. Each tip must generate a minimum of 210 three second machine inhalations in order to pass Quality Control.

What are the ingredients in an E-Tip?

The base liquid in e-cigarette cartridges is a mixture of liquid, flavourings, glycerol, propylene glycol and, in most cases, nicotine.

What is Propylene Glycol?

Propylene glycol (PG) is a colourless, odourless chemical that is used as a food additive, in cosmetics and in pharmaceuticals as an inert solvent or carrier. The ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease) states on its website, propylene glycol is a 'Generally Recognized as Safe' (GRAS) additive for foods and medications. PG has been used as the aqueous-based chemical additive in asthma inhalers and nebulizers since the 1950s, with no serious side effects known.

How much can I save smoking E-Lites?

By using E-Lites you could be saving up to 70%, compared with the cost of buying and smoking an equivalent number of traditional cigarettes from your local shop or supermarket. A single E-Tip is equivalent to approximately 40 traditional cigarettes, and cartridges cost about £4 each - so there is a huge saving to be had.

What strength refills do I need?

E-Tips come in a range of flavours and strengths to suit every user. For 'Full Strength' smokers we recommend the 'REDS - Regular', and if you smoke less strongly tasting cigarettes we recommend the 'GOLDS'.

I smoke menthols - can I get menthol E-Lites?

Of course. In fact the Menthol E-Tips are one of our biggest sellers.

Does it smell?

The vapour is odourless and dissipates within seconds.

So I can smoke these anywhere?

Where electronic cigarettes can be used will depend mainly on local laws and regulations. Where they can lawfully be used then, as for regular tobacco, you should always consider other people around before using electronic cigarettes in public places.

Can I smoke this whilst I'm pregnant?

We do NOT recommend smoking E-Lites or ANY products containing nicotine whilst pregnant.

Why do some E-Lites have a green LED?

We designed our range in this way so that it will not be confused with an 'ordinary' cigarette in a public place - and because we think it looks pretty cool too! Some of our kits do however come with a red LED battery in addition to the green one Alternatively, you can order a red LED.

What designs do E-Lites come in?

We offer several options of style and size in the E-Lites range. The E200 & E80 come with a green LED and our DUO models come with a red LED & a green LED battery, so the choice is always yours!

How do I know when I have 'smoked' one cigarette?

One of the best things about E-Lites is that you can have a couple of drags and put it away – unlike traditional cigarettes. You will know when it is time to replace the E-Tip once the vapour reduces significantly.

Are E-Lites intended to quit smoking?

No, E-Lites are designed as SMOKING ALTERNATIVES rather than a NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy). We are merely offering a tobacco free and tar free, better value alternative to traditional cigarettes. Try an electronic cigarette starter kit today and see for yourself, you may find it preferable to traditional smoking!
